What is an RDU?
The Rapid Deployable Unit (RDU) is enclosed in a rugged transit case that also serves as a user work space. It is designed for quick set-up. The RDU is a self-contained, easily transportable (fly away) unit. It incorporates into a single rugged platform, the Tactical Automated Manifest System (AMS). This system enables the user to efficiently document the shipment of military materiel in DoD MILSTRIP and MILSTAMP formats; reading from and writing to the DoD accepted Optical Memory Cards and RF tags thus helping to establish materiel visibility.

What do I use to connect my OMC Reader Writer to the laptop?
A Slim Small Computer System Interface (SCSI) card is used to drive the Optical Memory Card Reader/Writer. This SCSI card plugs into the PC card slot on the laptop. The SCSI card attaches to a cable that is included with the card. This SCSI card cable plugs into an adapter that allows it to attach to the OMC Reader Writer cable. An example of the card, cables, and adapter are shown below:

My laptop does not have a serial port. How do I hook up my barcode reader (BCR) dock/cradle?
Some laptops do not have serial ports. In this case, the manufactuer has included a dongle. This dongle is a USB to serial connection device that allows you to attach a serial device via a USB port.
